Sex License (02/21/2011)

This rant is coming off just reading about a case in the United Kingdom where a man has been court ordered to refrain from any sexual reproduction and activity because of his low intelligence level.

I feel this case is woefully unjust and practically reduntant (the man is currently in a homosexual relationship)and while I can not say anything yet on the authenticity of this article, I find this idea worth spending a few minutes on.

For this rant, I am working based upon this definition of Intelligence Quotient:

IQ level: Intelligence Quotient; A numerical representation of a persons intelligence level based upon a series of tests (mathematical, reading/writing, pattern recognition…)

I’ll be the first to say it, I do not feel that IQ is the best way to represent intelligence.
Intelligence is a persons ability to use their knowledge base to solve/handle problems and interact with their environment. To place an numerical value onto such a complex opinion (intelligence is based on an observers perception of an individual) is bound to be inaccurate if not flawed in my opinion.

So is it fair to judge a person based on this numerical score? In competition, the winner is the one with the highest score, but even 'The Game' allows for goofs and dim wits (thankfully).

To me, the point of a ‘Sex License’ shouldn’t be solely based on intelligence, but economic factors, health issues and criminal infractions. Arguably, all of these factors can be traced back to intelligence, but even the best of us can make bad decisions and the smartest can be criminals.
